5KCSTQ Scarping Sound -- Rear Wheel Bearings?

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed this sound slowly becoming more
prominent.

The sound is difficult to explain, but it sounds like something is stuck to
the wheel and scraping as the rear wheel turns. It sounds almost like a
tire rubbing against the wheel well, but given the high clearance of my car
-- it's not possible.

The sound occurs when the car is rolling in neutral, and begins to fad
after 35 mph. It's not related to the transmission (I don't think) because
it still happens with the clutch in or in neutral.

I've been told by some Q-folks that it's probably the rear wheel bearing,
but it certainly does NOT sound like a wheel bearing problem. Then again,
I've only had to replace front wheel bearings in my Qs -- never rears.

After several thorough exams of the undercarriage, discs, rims, brake
lines, etc., etc. -- I've concluded that it has to be a moving part
somewhere inside like a bearing or something. It also seems to get louder
now that there are seven tons of salt on the Mass roads!

TIA for your help and suggestions.

2 SECOND TEMPER TANTRUM--> I don't understand why they have to use so much
salt and sand for such a small amount of snow and ice. I hate the way they
handle winter roads here. After living in VT where the average snow fall
is 10X that of Boston -- and they DON'T USE SALT on the roads -- I am very
angry with the state of MASS and I simply don't understand their rationale
for dumping so much salt on the roads here. They must have more salt
leftover from the last 2 lame winters that they have to justify dumping
salt all over the mass pike as soon as they see a couple of flurries..
