CV Joint Failure

Fellow Audiphiles:

Had a soft clunking coming from the passenger side front, checked CV boots
immediately and found all in good shape. Gradually got worse, figured ball
joint or tie rod. Nope, all look good.

Finally thought mebbe strut bearings were the problem, probably the
originals and the car has 106,000 miles so I went ahead and bought a pair
for replacement.

Turns out it _was_ the passenger side outer CV joint. The boot was clean
and intact, but the inner clamp had given up on the axle (you could spin it
with your fingers)and the liquified grease got past it. Should have known
- the noise only appeared when turning - but trusted a visual inspection.
Just wanted to pass this along in case someone else has this happen.

Oh, and one of the lines to the rack has developed a leak, wheee. Will
take a line off the parts car and have a new one fabbed per suggestion last
week. Gotta love this list!
