If the computer says so, it must be true

This news story is a few days old. Apologies if you've already
seen it.

(Reuters. Caputh, Germany)
"Normally, accidents like this shouldn't happen," reasoned a
Caputh police spokesman. A motorist following driving instructions
on the satellite navigation computer in his BMW [natch] drove
down a ferry ramp into the Havel River, he said, without realizing
the only way he could cross the river was to wait for the ferry.
The 57-year-old man was not injured. "This sort of thing can
happen when people rely too much on technology," the police
spokesman said.

[Any apparent connection between automobile choice and lack of
common sense is purely coincidental and not intended to reflect
badly on BMW. The word "natch" in brackets was also totally
accidental.]
