RE: Coupe/ur-q boot lids

some of the later mb and rr euro ur-quattros came with a fibreglass rear
boot lid, and a number of the later us-spec ur-quattros ('85 only?) did as
well. no rhyme or reason to it as far as i can tell...

much as it may seem to be an advantage for the ur-q, the fibreglass boot lid
is not, imo.

basically the heavier the rear of the car the better.....

I made a discovery this week-end whilst parting out a nondescript
Coupe GT of
the '86 vintage. Perhaps someone else can help sort the pieces.

This car in question had a lighter-than-average feel to the
trunklid. After
hefting several hundred of the things, a *different* one comes as a
surprise.
It had an obvious part stamp on it, 857-827-019B. Hmm, I thought, a
tqc part?
It had the word fibron stamped near the part number. Hmmm.
Fibreglass? I had
heard/seen of lightweight trunks on some '85 US spec ur-qs but
believed them
to be quite rare. I know Glen's has it, but have seen several others
without.
