Fouling Plugs
<< It would help in the diagnosis if you described the appearance of the
fouling. Black greasy stuff? Grey-yellow crumbly stuff?
>>Black Greasy Stuff. Washes off easily with brake kleen.
>>No anode wear on the plug at all.
Also, it would help if you gave the make and ID numbers and age of the
plugs,
>>Plugs are the Bosch Triple electrode W7DTC, new. New Bosch wires, cap and
rotor. (2000miles old)
and if the fouling appears in stop-and-go city driving or mostly
under hard fast turnpike travel.
>>In the past 2000 miles I have taken (2) 250 mile trips at 70 mph or so, and
the rest is short (15 miles) country driving in upstate New York.
There are charts for this kind of diagnosis, and the chart pictures show
several kinds of fouling, so the details will help someone answer your
question. Wouldn't hurt to try a few tanks of another manufacturer of
gasoline, like maybe Shell mid-grade, and a bottle of Techron.
>>Currently using 89 or 93 octane (depending on price) and have used (1) 12
ounce bottle of techron in the last 2000 miles.
>>I also just cleaned the ISV with Brake kleen until it was running out
clean, and then lubing it with Slick 50 spray lube. (preventative maintenance)
>>In addition I have both a hot and cold start "problem".
>>On a cold start the car doesn't seem to keep a "choke" long enough. It revs
for about 30 seconds and then drops down to just above dieing. Then as it
warms up it runs better.
>>On a hot start, it takes about 7-10 seconds to catch and start up. No idle
problems with the hot start.
I hope this is enough detail and as always TIA.
