True.  For a long while, I thought I had a metal one - a magnet convinced
me otherwise.  SOme of the later cars _do_ have metal ones, and I also
can't see any reason.

One problem with all ur-quattros is the boot hinges.  Audi painted the
rear of the car after they were attached, and the paint cracks around
them.  This is the single most serious cause of corrosion on ur-quattros,
partly because most of the damage is invisible.  Fixing it involves
removing the rear screen.  Perhaps the composite lid was designed to
reduce the strain on these hinges and the bodywork around them.
