    AFAIK, the oil in manual transmissions and differentials doesn't "wear"
like engine oil - the additives in the oil are not depleted rapidly.  It is
probably a good idea to change oil with high mileage to remove any metal
filings which may accumulate, but I don't think the oil itself loses it's
lubricating properties. Oil changes will not hurt, unless you consider the
pocketbook pain from the price of the synthetics.
    IMHO, it is a good idea to change automatic transmission oil and filters
on a routine (100k or so) basis because this oil sees more severe service
than manual tranny oil.
