The thing is, Igor, it's all part of the USA package. You are not
able to pick and choose the bits of the life you like - tons
and tons of steaming hot water in all the showers is my personal
favorite - and toss the rest. There cannot be a hybrid North
American/European culture where you are at liberty in the manner
of your choosing on the one hand while imposing uniformity as it
pleases you on the other; such a thing would be fatally flawed and
collapse immediately from being self contradictory. I think this
is one of the most difficult adjustments for newer citizens. Not
that you can't carp about the rampant idiocy now and then. We all
do.
