I've often wondered about this .. there are many more 200+ HP cars running around today (than there were in '91), and most are lighter than the '91 200Q. And yet, not many match the Audi's performance (we can debate the 6.2s number, but I've actually *driven* many of the newer cars).
I have a faint suspicion that Audi might have underrated the actual power output of the engine. I've heard of other manufacturers doing that for insurance and legislative reasons (it was widely felt, for example, that the turbo four in the first generation Probe put out quite a bit more than its rated 145). Only a dyno could tell for sure, I suppose.
