Another data point, this bracket was fitted to the engine in my 1983
urquattro of US vintage when I pulled the motor. The stock 1 piece
EM was cracked. No EM studs were pulled or broken, but some nuts
were missing/loose. I didn't install this bracket on the MC engine which 
is now in the car, it didn't seem to help the stock 1 piece from cracking.

Are you surprised? It's just another example that the documentation
published by Audi is not 100% correct.
