RE: Ur-q questions...LONG
great! get the 20vt motor w/transmission from a 200q wreck, spend the
winter fitting it, and you've pretty much got an rr.
as per usual, the quality of the body/interior are probably more important
than the quality of the mechanicals. but do *not* assume that you can keep
an old ur-quattro without having to spend regular sums of money on it.
reality is different. i'm not sure what a student budget means these days,
certainly when i was a student i could hardly afford jeans. even whe i was
financial, my 1st wr ur-q was a very expensive introduction to audi
ownership. subsequent audis (s2, rr, rs2) have been much easier on the
wallet to own and have required no unscheduled maintenance.
others on the list have done this sort of thing to a wr. one of the
fundamental questions which all ur-quattro owners face is whether to keep
the mother stock, or to mod it. the result of this decision is pivotal to a
whole range of ownership-type issues.
your decision has been made for you if you purchase the car. if possible,
get someone who knows ur-quattros or at a minimum 80s-era audi's look at the
car with you. and another thing...
good luck...

Subject: Ur-q questions...LONG
Over the past six months I have been seriously toying with the idea
of
purchasing a Ur-q. I have had my eye on one that is privately
owned, has a
mint body and the interior seems quite good...admittedly I haven't
seen it
too close. The car does, however, have one problem (well, so
far!)...it
currently is lacking in the power department -> it has no engine!
Having said that, what engines are compatible with the Ur-q? Can
one take
something out of a 4k or 5k? If so what years and what engines will
fit? A
ballbark on how much modification it will take?
I have an opportunity to look at the car in about 3 weeks. What
sort of
things should I be looking out for? Assuming the drivetrain and
interior
are in decent shape, and the exterior is mint what should I be
expecting to
offer for this vehicle (without engine)? Just specify what currency
you
value it in.
