Re: Ur-q questions...LONG
>I've only been able to talk to the owner's parents, as he stores it at
thier house. However, I've got some pretty basic (perhaps stupid
even)questions for those with Ur-q experience.
Better to ask them now and get realistic answer, then later when it's
too late!
>I don't know the year or km's of/on the vehicle...although it is in
N.A. so that narrows down the year!
When you see it the 10th digit of the VIN# will tell you
>In terms of speed and pickup I would be happy with
something in the ballpark of my mom's '89 90q.
With the proper engine, or an engine, the UrQ will leave the 90 way
behind!
>Having said that, what engines are compatible with the Ur-q?
Stick with the correct engine or newer from 5KTQ or 200TQ
>What sort of things should I be looking out for?
Tough to say not knowing how much of the underhood components are left.
I would check for seized driveline items and brakes and body rot from
collecting water etc both in the trunk and interior floor.
>Assuming the drivetrain and interior are in decent shape, and the
exterior is mint what should I be expecting to offer for this vehicle
(without engine)?
Also tough to say, just running the egine could help you decide alot of
things, not being able to put the car on a lift is a serious handcap.
No matter how nice it is, you may have to offer based on a parts car
value because you will not be able to check some of the most rudimentary
systems including differentials and Quattro system!
>Can a ur-q be a realistic daily driver on a student budget?
NO! Unless of course you are being paid to go to school and have a nice
savings account that you won't mind depleteing. Course then again lots
of students on this list are driving nicer cars than I can afford now
=:0) Bottome line, if you were given this car for free, do you have
between $2,500 (doing a ton of work yourself) to maybe $7,500(+) full
retail to get this car into daily driver shape? (remeber, the term daily
driver in UrQ terms may not be what you had in mind) Before you even
think of taking money, provided it is for sale, take an UrQ owner with
you. Chances are the owner thinks it's worth more than it is and
another UrQ owner will help keep the bush off the rose colored glasses!
Good Luck
Mike
