Prognosis: Bad, so let me toss in some more....
<<Got the '86 5K back from my wrench.
The differential is meat. Car has about 150,000 Miles on it. 40% of them
mine. Suggestions?>>
There are not a lot of options here. If you are lucky you will be able to
rebuild the one you have. We were not, but fortunately had a donor car with
enough parts to make up one good diff between the pair. Including labor and
the complete rebuild of the tranny it's going to touch $1200.
German Transaxles of America wants $595 exchange for a slushbox and torque
converter, they wanted about $1800 exchange to include the rebuilt diff. We
opted to go with a local rebuilder. They showed me all the stuff that went
bad. And the stuff was REALLY trashed. I had them pull the screw out of the
inspection hole in the diff and coat it with anti-seize so we can get it out
later and change the fluid. Think we'll plan on 25K intervals.
Wish I had better news.
Later.
