Don't know where you got the idea that the lock cores couldn't be re-keyed.
Maybe the previous owner was lazy and gave you that line.
The Audi door lock cylinders are rekeyed exactly like the VW ones. Any
competent lock shop can do it, or you can yourself, just like you did with
the VW Golf ones, on the kitchen table in a couple of minutes. One word of
caution: if the grease has dried up and gone, those little tumbler
"thingies" and springs can shot out and be lost. Pay attention, and you
should have no problem.
