oil change -synta quantum

I took the 0w-40 mobil 1 back to halfords and went to my local 
vw/audi parts supply -uro , trafford park. They told me to use 5w 40 
synta quantum since it's what audi put in at the factory nowadays. 
But is the weight too still low for my car? 4 cylinder 1.8?

the guys at uro said it's fine for high mileage cars and halfords 
were clueless as normal.

Also the synta oil saved me 10 pounds over the mobil 1 and I got an 
extra ltr.

The other problem is that my oil pressure and oil temp gauges don't 
work. Is there any common fixes on these?
