You get it close by static timing (within a few degrees) and the ECU does the
rest. Set the marks on the flywheel, timing belt, and distributor according
the Bentley. There are no other adjustments that can be made. (The cam timing
can be changed by moving it forward/back a tooth, but that does not change
basic timing.) If the marks are too far away from the baseline the car will
not start. At all.
Make sure your guy can read the Bentley and have him set everything to the
"basic" settings.
Oh, BTW, I'd recommend somone more familiar with the I-5 engines for the next
time, but I guess you're stuck for now, huh?
