Getting a 4kq; long-term outlook
After a little over 2 years on the list, I'm tentatively thinking of
late '99 or early '00 as my time frame for getting a 4kq. This raises a
couple of questions I hadn't considered before.
1) I'm the kind of guy who likes to keep a car a <long> time. The only
reason I don't still have my '71 Peugeot, bought in 1990, is it got
hit. It's probably unrealistic to expect to be able to have my 4kq as a
daily driver for the rest of my life (I'll be 50 in June). but the
longer the better! If I could get parts for my 4kq until, say, 2010 or
2015, I'd be satisfied. With this in mind, how much parts commonality
is there between the 4kq and the 5kq/80q/90q? I gather the engines are
pretty much the same, but what about the drivetrain and underpinnings
in general? I'm less concerned about body parts, as I see plenty of
4k's (both -q and non) around.
2) All other factors equal, how much extra should I pay for a car
w/service records (or alternatively, knock off the price for a car w/o
them)?
Thanks!
