There is a sensor on the coolant fill-up container. Check it out.

Central locking is done by a vacuum pump located in the trunk, pass side,
tucked up around where the shoulder belt is. If you turn the lock in the
door and don't hear it whine and then the locks go, it's either defective,
has a bad connection or there's a vacuum leak. Most commonly, there's a
"T" junction in the passenger door-sill area that leaks.

Yep.
You need to buy the Bentley if you're serious about maintaining the car on
your own. I got mine fro All European Auto (800-ALL-EURO). Be warned, it's
about $100.
