sunroof tilt bracket RR

The potmetal sunroof tilt brackets/guide plates aren't very strong and
are prone to break as the sunroof ages and gets gunk in the tracks. I
replaced one on my 86 5KTQ today and was surpised at how easy it was.
It took less than 20 minutes and I was taking my time. Staighten a
metal coat hanger and make a small hook in end and a looped handle in
the other. Tilt the sunroof up and from outside the car push down the
flap. There are two springs that hook onto the flap, use the coat
hanger tool and unclip the springs. Back inside the car, close the
sunroof and push firmly on the edge of the flap/liner junction toward
that back of the car. It should unclip and slide back into the roof.
The offending piece should now be visible. Use needle nose pliers to
unclip two C-clips and unscrew the two large phillips head screws on
either end of the bracket. Remove the bracket. Install is reverse,
using the coat hanger tool to pull the springs back to the flap (aren't
you glad you made that loop to hold). That's it. Now check the
adjustment on the back on the sunroof, the lid should be about 1mm
higher than the roof. To adjust loosen the two screws that hold the
bracket to the lid and position accordingly. If one of your sunroof
bracket hasn't broken yet, it probably will, why couldn't Audi have made
these out of good steel? I got the part at the dealer for $64, The
Parts Connection has them also, undoubtedly cheaper.
