"Pretty meticulous" is actually an understatement. I saw Gross' car most
recently last Novemember and it just keeps looking better and better in all
respects. You would be hard pressed to find a better looking or more sorted
out 5ktq of that vintage.

I would tend to agree with Jeff. I would like to add that Gross' car does not
have o.e. springs (Eibachs?) which combined with the low profile tires (50
series Gross?) tosses the factory alignment settings out the window. That is
one thing I have not seen shared too much around the list, suggested alignment
settings for cars with modded suspensions and/or alternate tire sizes. Anyone
have a good set of baseline numbers?

As I told Gross via private email earlier today, when I did the first rack in
my (long gone now) '87 5ktq wagon at ~60k miles there was a vast improvement
to steering feel. It was leaking badly though--his is not and is supposedly
the second rack.

All that said, I do agree that alignment is critical on a quattro.

Good luck Gross and let us know what cures your vague steering.
