antenna setup in 1991 100
Mark, the RDS (Radio Data System) that is in wide use in Europe (displays
station ID, traffic reporting etc on your radio) is only an overlay signal
on the FM carrier that carries music and talk to your unit. It does not
require an extra antenna. Same FM antennas, on in the rear window and one up
front.
Some people on the list does not really like this setup due to its somewhat
lower sensitivity. I like it since I do not have to hazzle with an antenna
that goes up and down every time I stop the car (as in my Nissan). FM
reception on my unit is great, but I am in an urban area with good coverage.
If you look in the archives, many has posted about this recently. Think Al
Powell (aka Dr. Powell) has one of the very best explanation on the dual
diversity antenna setup.
