re: need quick help: 87.5 CGT outer CVJs?

We're almost done with the suspension on my brother in law's
"new" CGT (yes, the one I was selling). We're stuck on
this point: I can't get the outer CVJs off the axle. The circlip used has a
pair of "ears" and is unlike the earlier clip used on the 4kq.
I've tried opening the circlip and banging the joint off,
just banging, etc. Nothing!

Dan,
I went thru this on my 4kq and have only one real tip. Don't snap off the
ears on that circlip!
I broke one off and that's what clinched it for me... That joint will
probably never come off now. I only wanted to clean the joint and repack
it. So I ended up flushing it clean with brake cleaner and compressed air.
Then repacking it, etc. I was able to get the other joint off and slid
the new boot for the outer joint onto the axle from the inner end. That
outer joint clip is a real bugger. I guess there is a special tool that
would make it easy to remove, but I was using needle nose pliers.

I wouldn't have wanted to be under any time pressure when I was doing that
job. Hope it turns out weel for you.
