Re: Wierd 4kq CIS Fuel Problem
Ok,
First of all, THANKS to everyone who helped out. In no particular
order that would be Doyt Echelberge, Mark Rutherford, Don Hardy, Phil Payne,
Martin Pajak, Tom Nestor, Bob ???, Huw Powel, and Jim Accordino.
I spose you guys are wondering what the problem was. Well,
Surprise...Both cars had different problems CAr #2 that we pulled only one
injector on was "we think" air in the injector line because after much
cranking and some Fuel Pump running with injectors spraying it started fine
and ran wonderfully.
Car #1, the 84' that had the original problem, was we think originally
also air in the fuel line. And once we finally got the injectors spraying
correctly we had dissassemblede the Vacuum system about 5+ maybe 8 times and
had inadvertantly ripped a hose under a hose clamp under some Electical tape
where we couldn't see it. We repalced the part with the one from the good
car. Still no start. Bring out the starting fluid and start looking for
more leaks. Ahh, loose hose, tighten, still doesnt' help. Hmmm, Find one
injector that seems to be leaking. Now Phil, you said that you have
seen a car not run from one bad injector seal???? I cant see a NA motor
doing that but I can see a Turbo Motor doing that as you said it was an MB.
Well, I do have a bad injector seal. Actually the seal is fine but the SEAT
is broken (plastic seats on 84' 4kq with old style injectors) Jeesh. Also,
I found one Bent injector?????? Looks bent. Sprays fine, but I doubt thats
a contributing problem since it runs fine if I run the CIS MEtering Plate.
SO....seems one bad injector seal is keeping that plate from lifting at
idle hence at idle the injectors dont spray.....I guess its possible. I
wont know for 2 weeks though as we didn't have a spare seat lying around
(found one at my house on the way back to school) but I suspect in 2 weeks
upon replacement of that ONE seat hopefully it will run. Then we can move
it to its final resting place (jeesh, the things one does to keep from
towing a car 30 miles) so the motor can get Ripped out to make way for an
MC.
On the bright side I got to troubleshoot the CIS system just like I bet
I will have to do the first time I attempt to start the MC motor once its
in. O that motor all seals, bad hoses will be replaced from the beginning
so that will help a lot in the chances of it running on the first crank. :-)
Well, I better run. Thank you for everyone's help. Sorry I dont have a
final answer for you but I think that seat must just be letting a massive
amount of air in. Oh well.
Thanks
