Pure fun

I went over to the Area G meeting on Monday. It's normally about a
one-hour motorway drive, but because the weather was so good (i.e., bad)
I went along the country roads. It had snowed (inch or two) during the
day, and the temperatures dropped sharply at night, so I went for a
play. Around thirty miles of single and double track country roads -
all made by the traditional "rolling English drunkard". The ABS
engaged every time I even touched the brakes. The tyres are normal
summer P700Zs (we only get one or two days of snow a year) with about
5mm of tread. The TORSEN was working overtime - I only managed to get
one definite single-wheel spin, out of the front right on a sharp bend.

A TORSEN ur-quattro under very gentle acceleration is unbelievably
controllable on ice. I sailed past quite a few people on the way,
including a Landrover Discovery that was obviously having problems
getting power onto the road. I passed three 'ditchings' - nothing
but pride and tinplate hurt. One was one of these "RAV4" things -
crunched in a serious manner against a tree.

It was great fun. I had lots and lots of time and space to play with
the ABS, trying to get steering under ABS braking right.
