80q ignition timing

Hello,

While I've got the hood up, I thought I'd ask about checking the
ignition timing on my '90 80q. I have an intermittent knock that's
getting more frequent.

I have the Bently manual, but not the meters and dianostic equipment
called for. I do have a timing light, and dwell/tach (4,6,8 cyl only).

Can I do this myself without the fancy ($$$ ?) equipment that Bently
references?
