RE: Mystery Audi

Gary:

I once had a Jaguar with personalized plates (the ONLY time I ever did
this). The plate said XK120SE. Turns out there was another California car
with identical plates. I was on a bike ride a couple of years ago, and I
saw an old Jag XK120 off PCH being photographed for some Nordstrom photo
shoot. I stopped because it had my old license plate #, but it wasn't my
car. (Both cars were registered in Californai at the same time.)

As for SF parking, they're actually quite reasonable, more so than LA in my
experience. I once got ticketed in SF for pointing my wheels in the wrong
direction on a hill. I wrote them a letter explaining how the wheels were
pointed, and what the rules were, and they cancelled the ticket. Frankly, I
didn't remember how I'd pointed the car, but I found out the rules, and told
them that I'd followed the law.

What happened to you is a curiosity though. In June I got a parking ticket
in Berkeley. I have a Lago blue '91 200TQW. THe parking ticket said
'make--unknown'; color--green; can't make out last 4 digits of VIN. I was
tempted to ignore it, but figured that they had my license plate number, so
I paid it. It's nice driving stealth cars.
