What can these symptoms be telling me

Hey gang,

My SiL 89 100q started making jerking, sputtering movements while
driving, just out of nowhere.  It has 80k miles and believe the 60k
service (fuel filter, plugs) were done a little after 60k miles, but she
isn't sure all of what they did. Can this be as simple as bad gas, say
cheap 89 octane from the independent dealer, or fuel pump.  I'll ask her
if she hears a buzz coming from the rear.

Also, know someone selling their 93 100CSQW and told me the yoke in the
transmission and a u joint needs replacing. Are these different jobs?
Are they major jobs?  Appreciate any information.
