RE: 99 A6; Missing Rear Seat Heaters
I can't speak for the later cars, but the earlier cars, up to at least '91,
had some kind of pressure sensor for each side of the rear seats. To
activate the rear seat heaters, you turn on the front passenger side heater
switch, and somebody (or something) has to be sitting in the rear heat.
Then it's activated. They probably did this for 2 good reasons: 1) to save
the expensive of designing and locating another set of switches connected to
relays for the rear seat; and 2) as a safety precaution and energy saver, so
that the rear heaters aren't activated when nobody's home, so to speak.
Perhaps they continued or resumed this practice? One easy way to tell is to
pull the rear seat cushion, which is easy enough, and see if there are wires
attached.
