The crack AMG Mercedes team will return for its second attack on the Le Mans
24 Hours in June with an all-new closed GT racer.  The news brings to an end
speculation that Mercedes would follow rivals BMW and Audi by building an
open-top car.  Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug said that this year's
challenger would 'look similar' to the CLK-LM but was 'a new car'. 'There
are lots of changes,' he said. 

However, the latest CLK is likely to retain the normally-aspirated V8 of the
LM, even though rule changes have helped turbocharged engines.  It is
unclear when the new car will run for the first time. The first endurance
test is expected to take place next week with a LM fitted with some parts
designed for the new chassis.
