Hello again (& distributor noise?!)

It is great to be back on the list! After a seven-month
hiatus involving a move, crazy employment changes, and even
a period of Audi-less driving, things have once again
reached a semblance of order. That is, in all areas except
my ever-stubborn 87 5kt 5-spd... it took a few months off
(through no real fault of its own) but seems none the worse
for wear after un-pickling and several thousand miles. The
turbo coolant pump went away recently, but that's no
mystery. What is mysterious here is that the other day, the
distributor was making a whistling noise not unlike that of
a loose belt! Yes, I did isolate it to the dist. with a
stethoscope. This occurred only on a single 1/2 mile jaunt,
not to reoccur since. Engine is stove-stock MC with 191k.
Any BTDT? This seems like a rare occurence- I didn't think
this part wore out too frequently- but then again the miles
are up there on this still-proud example. I seem to recall
there being a provision for lubrication on the Bosch dist.
on my old BMW Bavaria- is there something similar on this
engine which I have overlooked entirely? I have my doubts...

I'll keep it short, but the only thing nicer than a (mostly)
tip-top Audi for daily use is the same car but no need for
daily driving! It's so good to be able to walk to work as I
now can-especially if you have suspicion that you're about
to seize the distributor shaft!
(brief sarcasm mode off)
