Driving lights for Audi body style 44 (+ general lighting info)

Well, I have finally decided to change out my (cheap and useless) driving
lights on my 89 100E.

After doing "research" (albeit not scientific) for a while, I have come
across a number of more or less useful information sources I'd just like to
share with you.

In Sweden, most all Audis (despite good Euro lights) have a pair (or two) of
driving lights installed up front. Either square (Hella Jumbo 220 or Bosch
Profi 210) or round ones (Hella Rallye 1000/2000, Bosch Big Knick). They are
mainly mounted on OEM brackets or a little "rack" which makes for a very
sturdy mounting. Top support is braced back to the top of the grille. All
these lights are very good, round ones with somewhat better light output but
looks "bigger" on car.
And, all of the lights mentioned can be had fog, driving, or pencil beam.

I have a good friend who's coming to the US on Saturday, so she'll carry a
pair of Bosch/Hella over the water for me. Have not decided to buy round or
square ones yet. Will have to do some more measurements since I have drilled
my bumper previously for the (shitty) set I already have. Don't want them to
extrude in front of the bumper, could be very expensive in the long run (see
earlier posts about "door dings"). Possibly will end up with a pair of large
square ones (Hella Jumbo 220) since they are likely to be less
"eye-catching" for local LE. But, I'd rather see and be seen than driving in
the dark.

Some good links for driving lights and possibly also general lighting
issues:

good outcome)

Currently investigating legislation for Washington State. Seem they rely on
SAE info and SAE charges for every bit of info. More to follow when I have
had time to dig into this issue.
