I drilled a hole in a piece of .125" flat stock, balanced it on two equal-
height sockets and threaded a bolt through the hole and into the center of the
pulley. It wound out easily by hand, using a box end wrench...

Guilty as charged ... on a Type 44, you also get to pull the bracket that
bolts from the oilpan to the transmission as well as well as drop the subframe
in order to get at the rear oilpan bolts (actually, I was able to leave it on
the car but lowered it on its bolts as far as possible ... it was tight but I
managed).
