RE: Dunlp SP4000s: Was,are Sumitomos any good?

>From the various discussions about tires, Dunlops, Sumitomos, Yokos, etc., I
come away with the following lessons:

1. Ideally, we should have 3 sets of tires/wheels for a)track; b)street; c)
winter.

2. ANY tire that one buys for the purpose of performing 2 or more functions
is, by definition, a compromise and suboptimal for any one category.

3. Everybody has a different take on how close any of these brands and
designs comes up to an acceptable standard for each of the functions, track,
street, winter. How much life one expects from a tire is clealy an issue
here as well.

4. If one is going to compromise at all, then price is an obvious and
unavoidable factor. Given that, a tire that costs, say, $130. versus one
that costs $85. had better be a LOT better, and deliver a lot more
satisfaction.

5. Since I already bit the bullet and ordered a set of cheapie Dunlop
SP4000s (yes, interpret this thread as rationalization) for the stock BBS
rims (15x7.5), I'll keep an eye out for a reasonably priced set of 16x8 rims
for a less compromised future.
