I don't think it's anything specific, just a clip rubbing or something.

Yes.  It still does something I dislike - at 72deg, it will warm
up quickly, then contniue to blow tepid air at your feet.  I would
prefer it got up to temperature, then shut off the airflow until there 
was a 5 degree drop.  I hate having cold air on my feet, except in
the summer!  This is a design "feature" though, not a problem.
(future buyers take note!)

Funny, my mechanic suggested the felt pad as well.  I'll have to

It's possible, as they should be the same bushings, but I doubt
it is worth it.  Certainly not at the current cost, anyway.
