Its entirely possible, Im sure we dont know EVERYTHING audi sport has
done :)
Im sure theres enough stuff happening in there to make an X files
episode.

Not sure how the rules read back then, so who knows. All I know is the
one they had on display was 4V and it seemed to imply they all were.
