Re: V6 12V Turbo Conversion
I know of one person who's done this, and don't know if it's a lister.
Incidentally I think this was a twin turbo setup. Sounded pretty fun :)
Anyway, methinks it would be hard and costly:
*There's a compression ration of 10.3:1, and the cylinder webbing is
5.5mm, so either new pistons or grind the old ones way down.
*Probably want to see if something can be done about the rings
*Probably need custom throttle body with new butterflies (not just bored
out)
*There would almost definitely be a cooling issue, since the engine runs
hot anyway and every square inch (plus some!) of grill space is filled
with radiators
Even then, my guess is that you wouldn't get the full benefit of the
turbo because of the ECU.
At one point TAP offered a supercharger kit for the 12v for $2000 but I
think they've stopped that. Someone posted a month or so ago about
making a turbocharger or possibly a supercharger, but it was for a
pretty general application and I'm not sure how well it would work in
the 12v.
