The plastic reservoir is pretty rugged, I don't think
aging dried or swollen rubber grommets lubricated with
brake fluid are much of a threat to it.  

The best way I've found to change them quickly and
painlessly is to get an empty gallon jug,"pig nose"
type, cut a square hole in the top. Make the hole
more or less large enough to fit over the bottom of
the master cylinder.  With this below, you can just 
pull the reservoir off without worrying too much 
about pissing fluid all over the place.
Let the reservoir drain through the bottom,
this will help flush any gunk you have in 
there.
