91 200q distributor?

This hasn't been my month. Two weeks ago my car wouldn't start due to a failed fuel pump relay. Thanks to all who sent advice.
The car died exactly one week later. My mechanic reports the gear on the distributor shaft is broken, and he can't find just the gear, so a new distributor will be $330. Anybody heard of this before? More to the point, anyone have just the gear or a less expensive distributor?
