Audio system upgrade ideas
Looking for some advice regarding the audio system in my 200TQ
No it does not have the Bose system. Just stock OE Gamma radio.
Want to keep the stock head unit as I'm pretty happy with it,
works well, and I like the station display in my instrument cluster and
don't want to loose this feature. So, looking to try to improve on
what's there now. Here are my two chief complaints about the system.
1) Sound is very rear-oriented. In other words, most of the
sound is comming from behind. Now, I'm kinda used to this with the
5000 as it seems most Audis are like this, but why they put the
tweeters back there I'll never know. Adjusting the balance doesn't
really help this and the quality of the front speakers is just poor.
They aren't really doing anything.
2) I need CD! Most of my music is on CD and I want to be able
to play CD's in the car. Seeing as how I want to keep the stock head
unit, I'll have to opt for a CD changer. Really like the OE one
offered as an option, but they are hard to find and expensive.
So, hearing my complaints and what I am looking for (something
simple), can anyone make any suggestions?
I was thinking of just upgrading the speakers up front to ones
with a tweeter that sits on top of the speaker....one of those, or
building a custom panel in there to fit a larger speaker than the wimpy
3 1/4 that's in there now. Anyone done this? And, then, installing an
RF modulated CD changer in the trunk, with the changer control up front
keeping it somewhere around the center console.
Any advice. Any problems I might run into by doing this?
