Boy,
    I really should be studying for my B-Law test right now.  But, as I
recall, an Oral Contract is binding if there was compensation and
acceptance.  So, you paid him the agreed amount to do the job, he didn't
finish it for whatever reason.  Thats fine but if he spent more without
consulting you its his fault.  If in the process he ruined the Tranny
its negligence and he should pay.
    So, were there ANY witnesses as to the Oral COntract.  If so then it
seem you have grounds to go to court.
    THats the extent of my limited knowledge. I could be way off but I
think I am close. OF course your lawyer will know better than me.
    Anyone want to correct me???
