Re:1984 4000 quattro

Today, while driving to work, noticed a 1984 4000q at a local used car
dealership.  On my way home today, I stopped by and talked to the
'dealer' there (gold Playboy bunny charm on gold neck chain / lots of
'blow dryer time' clocked on the mane).  I looked under the hood -
pretty clean - that used car dealer steam clean look.  Inside, pretty
clean again, dash cracked to hell and back - air freshener/upholstery
shampoo funk hung heavy in the interior.  Wacky-Ass Alpine stereo with
6x9 in the friggin' doors for chrisake.  Amps as a big as a pullman
suitcase in the trunk.

Took her for a drive.  Diff. locks work, but center didn't
*immediately* disengage.  Older pull-style control, and audible
'psssshhhhh' vacuum sound when disengaging.  Is this normal?  I'm
looking around for a car for a buddy who just moved back to town, and
was wondering what this hummer should bring on the market.  Body is
good - not great.  Very basic quattro transportation at 144K.

The *dealer* is asking $3995, which seems about twice what it odda be
worth.  Any opinions/suggestions on an ol' battle axe like this?
