Re: handling?
Here's something I hope some of you with some racing experience with
quattros can answer me.
During hard cornering (eg. an intersection) on dry asphalt my front end
feels like it's bouncing on the road.
It feels like there isn't enough friction, and the rear wheels are
pushing the car forward, resulting the front wheels to bounce. Is this
normal, or could be allignemnent, or perhaps even tires? I have Blizzaks
on.
Blizzaks? SNOW TIRES? Cornering?
What do you expect? (By the by, *I* have Blizzaks too, and they're
wonderful ice/snow tires...)
You're probably experiencing "sidewall flex" -- if you could take
super-slow-mo pictures of the front of your car, you would see the
entire tire (from the side view perspective) actually "rolling" or
"curling" under the wheel. I betcha you will find lotsa scuff marks
on your sidewalls -- that is how far the tire is being curled up
*underneath* the wheel. You are cornering on the *sidewall* as much
as on the tread surface, especially on the outside corner tire.
To a limited extent, higher tire inflation pressure will help (although
it is likely to hinder the snow performance where you want the flex).
