BTW, that "old Mercedes" was, as I first suspected, a 6.9! 417 cu in of SOHC
German V8! That reverse burnout where we are first introduced to this beast
on-screen is no special effect. Look at what Frankenheimer managed to
obliterate: the three big guns of German sedans- M5, S8, and 6.9.
I liked this symmetry and wondered if it was intentional. Each was the fastest
sedan available when new...
