Re: Subject: Re: They REALLY want to total my UrQ
Stev:
I agree with both points. I've been very lucky with State Farm and, in
fact, just yesterday redid my insurance on the two Urq's to put them on
Classic limited status and drop the rates. Would have saved $1200 if I'd
done that on the '83 three years ago, but who knew I'd drive it so little
down here. Their initial response (phone call to HQ) had no problem with
$10k and $19k values on the cars as per their excellent conditions. But,
they are going to research the values a bit more.
On the point re. qtc pricing lately, the '83 has been for sale for
$8,800...lots of semi-serious bites and it will probably go shortly...but, a
guy locally, where it's not advertised, saw me on the street and asked if I
might like to sell it sometime later this year, as he had owned and loved
one in "one of his past reincarnations" and might like to get another
shortly (whatever that means). He drove it and said that he'd seen a few
over the last six or seven months and figured that I'd probably want "what?
ten or eleven grand...maybe twelve?.." I, of course, gave him my number and
told him to call when he was ready to buy. All right, I told him he could
have it the next day if he made the right offer. But only because of the
'85. My point is, this guy has had one, or more, before and has started
looking again and he's apparently comfortable with $10k+ for a good example.
Makes me wonder if those people who told me I should ask at least ten grand
for mine were right. I thought they were dreaming...if only a little.
Gotta wonder about the effect of the A4 on the prices, too. I mean, one guy
called who was going to try to make it to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and get
it and he was a "Beemer" guy, complete with the attitude. He owned a 635
and his wife drove an older 3 series and he had an M5 sitting somewhere, or
something. The older classic Audis may benefit greatly from the, uhh,
recognition.
