If you are careful/creative you can keep them right there in the gauge 
housing, along with the lights as well.

If I had to move the existing setup, I would move the plunger to the 
location for the factory radio Fader knob, if you don't have one that 
is.  Just in the lower dash about 6 inches below the ignition(location 
of said heater switches?).  Otherwise I would go electric as well, if 
your gonna spend that much time, you might as well improve the system.
