Re: GT/4KQ A/C removal...
------------------------------
Always lond been a dream of mine to rid my cars of those pesky, heavy
compressors. How hard is this to do? Damn thing must weigh about 40
pounds!
BTW, I've got 2 compressors if anyone want to come down here and properly
remove them!
------------------------------
Yep, BTDT. Its not hard. ANd complete the system weights almost
100 lbs fully charged. ( no clue how much the charge weighs vs empty)
Anyhow, compressor is easy to remove if empty. (Obviously have a
shop drain fluid for you) So is Condensor (RAdiator like thing?) Then
you have the little canistor behind headlight. (Evaporator or whatever
its called) Then you have the hard part. Remove the Big Box under the
dash behind Glove Box. Has 3 lines going to it. Two Big ones that have to
be unscrewed from numerous clamps in the Engine Compartment (Much easier
if Battery is in trunk and Batt Box is gone) THen there is a metal tube
running all around the firewall to the driver side then to the front.
This is VERY hard to get out in one piece. I did with mine so I have a
complete system that is good but if you want ;you could cut it up and make
life easy on yourself. :-)
Anyhow, front of car will raise a bit from no weight. Turn in
will improve. Weight Balance will improve. Move Batt to rear as well and
front sits really high but car is balanced very well. Next is coilovers
to finish it off and make it sit nicely. (After the Turbo of course :-)
Good Luck
