4KQ Clutch - again

I've found someone to replace the clutch on my '86 4KQ.  One thing 
though, the mechanic keeps talking about having to replace the pilot 
bearing and the crank seal.  I'm not certain this is necessary.  I think 
he's a reliable mechanic and sees a lot of VW and Audi's, but I'm not 
certain he's seen too many quattros (most people haven't here in sunny 
Florida).  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
