A belated thank-you to the list
Hello, everyone!
I know it's terribly late to do this (I don't know *how* I got so far
behind!), but I wanted to say a sincere "Thank you!" to everyone who
helped with my antilock problem after the car was serviced a while ago.
It still isn't fixed, but I have identified the problem as a broken
sensor, and will fix it when I have a bit more cash. The mechanic at the
shop (I spoke with them on the phone) is both an idiot and a bastard. He
said they found a "broken wire" when they removed the wheel. When I
responded that he must have x-ray vision, since the wire is enclosed
within a housing, he became rather quiet. No matter, really; I wouldn't
let my car into that shop were it the last on earth. Meanwhile, I am
still able to drive the car; the brakes work, except for the antilock
function. The only problem really is an annoyance; the "Antilock" light
is very bright, and I occasionally mistake it for a warning light during
the daytime and divert my attention from the road. At night, it's *very*
annoying.
However, time and money for fixing it may be withing sight! I
interviewed today for a new job, and *I*, at least, think it went well.
If you folks are as effective at wishing luck as you are at helping to fix
cars, please wish away!!
On a related matter, a thank-you is also owed to the person who posted the
link to 20th Street Auto Parts. They saved my skin two weeks ago! I
needed to replace the rear brakes on my '88 90Q, and discovered that the
slide pins were at one with the mounting brackets. I was able to heat
both brackets and thereby free the pins, but one was broken. Dealer
price: $88 per side! (In all fairness, this price did include both the
bracket and the pins.) I was able to get both brackets and four pins for
$75 plus shipping.
Again, fellow listers, a sincere and heartfelt "Thank you!" Sorry for
being so rude.

p.s. If anyone responds directly to me, please check the message's
header before doing so. My correct address is "clfitz@inetone.net". (I'm
just trying out a new Linux system, and pine is doing something strange
and unpredictable to me. It'll be fixed soon, I hope...)
