Not in the least. (and this is a bit of a flame)
It's standard netequitte not to post attachments to mailing lists, unless
the nature of the mailing list specifically requires that.
If you do the math, sending out one 40K file to several hundred people
takes up a lot of space and processing time. (and to my mind, bandwidth,
although that's not as much of an issue these days).
While you may be using a mailer that supports "click-on-this-to-see", not
all of us are (or want to).
Furthermore, having the program reject large files requires that it check
and find out what size the mail is *before* rejecting it, which, again, takes
up time (and when you're paying by the minute, that makes a *big* difference)
Here in North America, we're lucky enough to have flat-rate local service,
which is certainly not true elsewhere.
Personally, I'm sitting just off a major network junction, but that doesn't
change appropriate behaviour - I don't know what your connect is...
Which all comes down to - send out references, not attachments.
