4kcsq mufflers?

A friend just bought a 87 4kcsq for his teenage daughter.  This is his first
Audi and bought it by my recommendation.  A nice car for a good price but
needing a few common 4kq repairs.  The car needs both mufflers and he took
it to a local shop for an estimate.  He called me this morning in shock at a
$660 dollar estimate and asked if I could help get a better price.  He is
not looking to make this the top performing 4k, just a legal piece of
reliable transportation for his daughter.  Any suggestions on a lower cost
exhaust?  The car is in the Boulder, CO area.
